The Education Specialist in Educational Leadership degree (K-12 Administration track) from Mississippi College is designed to meet the needs of educational professionals seeking a higher level of licensure in school administration or an entry-level licensure in school administration that builds on an existing AA licensure in another area of professional education.

In this accelerated online Ed.S. program, which integrates a Christian worldview into the curriculum, you will study personnel management, legal structures and issues, principles of fiscal management, central office roles and responsibilities, and more.

The CAEP-accredited Ed.S. program is designed for working educators and offers multiple start dates, accelerated online coursework, and affordable tuition. Prepare to lead effectively as a Principal, Assistant Principal, Supervisory Leader, or School Administrator in as few as 12 months

Educators in this 41-hour online education program must pass the School Leaders Licensure Assessment (SLLA) in Mississippi or the parallel requirement in their state, before they can be approved to graduate and apply to obtain a Class AAA license in Administration. If students cannot pass the SLLA the semester before they graduate or choose not to take it, they can switch to the Ed.S. in Educational Leadership – Curriculum & Instruction (C&I) track, and by completing a minimum of 8 additional hours, can graduate with the Ed.S. Ed Leadership – C&I track.

Students should consider application date deadlines, turn in all the required documents, register for classes and pay tuition for their desired program start date.

The School of Education admission process has specific requirements that students must meet to enroll in the Education Specialist in Educational Leadership – K-12 Administration track online program. Education Specialist in Educational Leadership – K-12 Admin track Online Requirements

  • Must possess a master's level permanent teaching license. The master's degree and license must be in an area of professional education. A photocopy of the valid license is required.
  • Must meet all general requirements for admission to the graduate school at Mississippi College
  • No GRE required
  • Must have a 3.25 GPA on all prior graduate work
  • Must submit a School District Verification Form
  • Must supply three letters of recommendation from school administrators familiar with applicant's character, scholarship and potential for successful completion of the program. Please have your recommender complete the recommendation form and send to gps@mc.edu
  • Must have a minimum of three years of teaching experience on the permanent license (applicant can apply if he/she will have three complete years by start of program). Submit work experience verification form showing your 3 years of teaching experience found here.
  • Send all official transcripts from previously attended colleges or universities to the MC Grad Admissions office.

To be prepared while enrolled in first course:

  • Prepare a portfolio showing writing sample, letter of communication and examples of leadership experience (in or out of state)
  • Entrance interview with program advisor (can be done via Skype/Zoom)

To be maintained during program:

  • After 12 hours, must have and maintain a 3.25 GPA in program until completion
  • As an exit requirement, must defend research-based project completed during the Ed.S. Program

Licensure Assessment

Candidates in the Ed.S. in Educational Leadership – K-12 Administration track must pass the School Leaders Licensure Assessment (SLLA) in Mississippi or the parallel requirement in their state, before they can be approved to graduate and apply to obtain a Class AAA license in Administration.

If students cannot pass the SLLA the semester before they graduate or choose not to take it, they can switch to the Ed.S. in Educational Leadership – Curriculum & Instruction (C&I) track, and complete an additional 8 hours minimum, in order to graduate in the Ed.S. Ed Leadership – C&I track.
